About michael mcguirt

Finding myself in this version of

a valentine

you never kiss me,

nor taste the tears

of my pain

a love of assumption

is not a valentine

a love

of assumption

is not

a Valentine

I walked behind her

to sample her scent

like the animal I am

come to me

come to me in a dream deep in the night
come to me a ghost flickering by candlelight
come to me in any color you choose to be
just not that memory

come to me with your dark Appalachian eyes
come to me hiding behind a torn disguise
come to me with your painful honesty
just not that memory

(in perfume rain of louring mist
quiescent gray or slivers that pierce
the end of day, bleeding
upon the edge)

come to me the joy of a glorious death
come to me a word of truth in every breath
come to me on a cross to set the world free
just not that memory

I wanted to make her laugh

Then I would laugh

I wanted to make her happy

Then I would be happy

Instead, she cried

And then I cried

i lost myself

in the mystery of you

i became lost as I got closer,

and unraveled the tangles of you

and now that i’m in you

i am lost and found in the love of you

with a kiss

and dismissed

with a kiss
